We’ll clear out early, (like 9:00 pm) but we’ll be homeless again for some time.

But the next ***(2-2 Walking Hippos) 36 hours will be unsettling since we don’t want to pay to stay another night here. Now, we are both very nervous, because we have found a sanctuary here and are about to disrupt that peace and, since we’ve wanted to go to Egypt for over 40 years, we are doubly-hyped. At Aswan, we will find some place to sleep. The rest of Egypt at Cairo and Alexandria will take two weeks, but until we get to Luxor, and Aswan, (maybe tomorrow), it will be a very long day.

We will arrive there at 10:00 am and will immediately **(2-1Giraffes) investigate the famous dam, the Tombs of the Nobles and Monuments of Nefertiti and Akhenaton and of Alexander and others there before sailing up the Nile to Luxor where we will find the Valley of the Kings and Queens of the Old Empire. We leave at 00:00 to get to the airport to catch a 4:00 am flight to Aswan, Egypt. Tomorrow, we will get ready to leave for Egypt. & pm here and in Dar Es Salam, opposite Zanzibar, we heard the Moslem call to prayer, and it definitely reminded us that we are far from home and will be moving farther away still – before we begin to get closer. Therefore, remember that what follows is a glimpse only – shortened by the complexity of the task and by writing while travelling.Īt 5:00 am. Even as we climbed Kilimanjaro, our lungs screaming for air, our legs splintering under the crushing weight of each step up, feeling knottier and tighter than 200 year old Baobab trees and our nerves as frazzled as the (**PHOTO 2 Kilimanjaro **) thorns on acacia trees, with glorious alpine visions surrounding us and before us and with stinging, freezing sleet in our faces, we knew that, though we might try to describe it, we couldn’t capture and express it well enough for people to imagine unless they were to do/see it themselves. It is impossible to capture anything more – unless I wrote constantly. A glimpse only is what I can offer anyway. Eventually, I will have to give shortened updates, hitting highlights only, in an attempt to get to a more recent past. But, where to begin now? We have travelled at a hectic pace and 4 months have passed without an update.

So that people we know can have a sense of what doing this trip is like and can imagine it, I want to describe what I can about our experiences – but also so that people can know what is happening to us, for much HAS happened. If you're feeling lucky.Starting From Shoestrings to Running - through the Olduvai Gorge, up Kilimanjaro, across the Serengeti & Massai Mara - to finally arrive at Nairobi & Catch our Breaths - for a moment. I should have everyhting back together by Sunday night. I'm currently updating a few issues - the main thing I need to work on is redoing all 21 start times. With up to 100 UP freight moves a day and Metra trains from six different lines converging at OCT and Western Ave., daily weekday train movements can exceed 400 per day!! Did I tell you that I like action? Throw in freight terminal delays, suburban territory with minimum space to hold freights, block swapping, T&T and few other surprises. Chicago Tower and some other very minor yard movements at Proviso and Global III. It covers the territory of UP DS11, UP East End DS, Metra A-2 (Western Ave) Tower, Lake St Tower (Ogilvie Transportation Center), EJE W. I've been working on this territory for a couple of years, trying to keep it up to date with all of the changes that the UP/Metra has been making. My other favorite is my own territory for the UP (ex CNW) Geneva sub between Clinton, IA (mp 138.9) and Chicago, IL (MP 0.0) current spring '06. Actually, anything by Fred Frailey is good. If you're refering to the BNSF Kansas Division Sept 17-23, 2000 created by Fred Frailey, then I agree with you zwspnby9.
